1

Open GPSnap Capture Tool

Navigate to gpsnap.com and click on "Start Capturing" or go directly to /capture. The tool works on any device with a camera and GPS - smartphones, tablets, or computers with webcams.

Tip: For best results, use a smartphone or tablet with built-in GPS. Desktop computers may have limited GPS accuracy.

2

Grant Camera Permission

Your browser will ask for camera access. Click "Allow" or "Accept" to enable the camera. If you accidentally deny permission, look for the camera icon in your browser's address bar to update permissions.

Tip: On iOS Safari, you may need to grant permissions through Settings > Safari > Camera.

3

Grant Location Permission

Next, your browser will request location access. Click "Allow" to enable GPS tracking. This is essential for embedding location data on your images.

Tip: Go outdoors or near a window for better GPS signal accuracy, especially on your first capture.

4

Wait for GPS Lock

Give your device 10-30 seconds to acquire a strong GPS signal. You'll see the GPS accuracy improve as the device locks onto satellites. The accuracy radius will display on screen.

Tip: Clear sky view helps GPS accuracy. If indoors, accuracy may be 50+ meters. Outdoors typically gives 5-15 meters accuracy.

5

Customize Overlay Settings (Optional)

Before capturing, you can customize what information appears on your image: coordinates, address, timestamp, altitude, accuracy. Choose overlay position (top/bottom) and font size (small/medium/large).

Tip: Your settings are saved for future sessions, so you only need to configure once.

6

Frame and Capture

Position your camera to frame the subject. When ready, click the "Capture" button. The image will be captured with GPS data visually overlaid on the photo.

Tip: Hold your device steady for a clearer image, especially in low light conditions.

7

Review and Download

After capture, review the image with the embedded GPS overlay. If satisfied, click "Download" to save it to your device. The image is saved as a PNG file with the location data permanently embedded.

Tip: The downloaded image contains visible GPS data that can't be removed without editing the image itself - this makes it tamper-resistant.

8

Capture More Images

The camera remains active for quick successive captures. You can capture multiple images without re-granting permissions. Each capture will have updated GPS coordinates and timestamps.

Tip: If you move locations between captures, wait a few seconds for GPS to update to your new position.
